Recently, the Hong Kong SAR government in revising the toys and children’s products safety ordinance expanded the scope of “children’s products” and published again the toys and children’s product safety (additional safety standards or regulations) regulations. The new regulations will take effect on July 1, 2014, the first clear toys and children’s products plasticizer limited requirement.
According to the toys and children’s product safety (additional safety standards or regulations) regulations, toys and children’s products may not contain plasticizer of the first category (a total of three kinds of plasticizers: BBP, DBP and DEHP). For those products which can be put in less than 4 years old children’s mouth shall not contain plasticizers of the second category (a total of three kinds of plasticizers: DIDP, DINP, and DNOP). Toys and children’s products in the first or the second plasticizer total weight must not exceed 0.1% of the total weight of the products. At the same time, the additional safety standards or regulations also set rules for identification marks and warnings on products.
