As a result of increasing raw material prices DSM will increase the price for its Akulon and Novamid polyamide 6 polymers. DSM will increase prices by €120/t in Europe, and by $0.10/lb in North and South America. These increases will take effect for all orders shipped on or after August 1, 2014 where contracts allow.

While DSM continues to pursue and implement cost savings initiatives targeted at absorbing the impact of the raw material escalations. This additional increase is necessary to ensure DSM’s sustainable long-term position as leading supplier of engineering plastics.

The feedstock for nylon 6 is caprolactam, a benzene derivative. July benzene contracts in the US increased by 80 cents/gal over June, to $5.28/gal, and in Western Europe by €99/MT, to €1,076/MT, according to data from IHS Chemical.
