In China, the vast majority of caprolactam is used for the production of nylon 6 fiber, accounting for over 86% of consumption. Nylon 6 is mainly used in transportation, electronics, textile industry as well as films, accounting for more than 12% of the total consumption. It is expected that nylon 6’s annual demand of caprolactam will increase at the rate of average 6.4% in the next few years. China’s total demand for caprolactam will be close to 1.6 million tons by the end of 2014.
The formula of Caprolactam is C6H11NO, which is white powder or crystal structure with 133.16 molecular weight. It is oily, water-absorbing and soluble in organic solvents, including water, ethanol diethyl, ether, acetone, chloroform and benzene etc. it gives a slight smell of tertiary amine compounds.
Champoux analysts of consulting industry pointed out that it required double bags to package and store caprolactam. The inside bag uses polyethylene film bag and heat sealing, while the outer bag is a triple composite bag of kraft paper, polyethylene etc. It should be stored in a dry, clean warehouse, and be away from moisture and sunlight. Breakage of packaging during transport process must be avoided.
Caprolactam is one of the important organic chemical raw materials, the main purpose is formed of polyamide chips (often called nylon-6 slices or chinlon-6 slices) by polymerization which can be further processed into nylon fibers, engineering plastics, and plastic film. Basing on the different quality and indicators, Nylon-6 slices have different applications of focus.
