Asahi Kasei Chemicals announced on August 29 that it has decided to construct a plant in China for Duranol? polycarbonatediol (PCD), an intermediate for high-performance polyurethanes.

PCD is used to make high-performance polyurethanes with characteristics such as exceptional heat resistance and water resistance. Its demand is also growing worldwide. Asahi Kasei Chemicals intends to produce a new PCD plant in China with the capacity of 3,000 tons a year.

The new factory will be located in Nantong City of the Jiangsu Province Economic and Technological Development Zone. Plans to start construction in the spring of 2014. The new plant will begin production by early 2015.
